In a double-blind clinical study, researchers evaluated the effect of co-administering BioPerine® — a black pepper extract standardised to contain 95–98% piperine, alongside Selenium SeLECT®. Over the course of six weeks, ten healthy volunteers were divided into two groups:
One group received 50 mg of Selenium SeLECT® alone
The other received 50 mg of Selenium SeLECT® combined with BioPerine®
Serum selenium levels were measured at two, three, and six weeks. The findings were clear:
By the second week, the BioPerine® group had serum selenium levels approximately 30% higher than the selenium-only group, a significant enhancement in bioavailability. These levels plateaued across the following weeks, remaining safely within the normal range throughout.
Importantly, no adverse effects were reported in either group.
